Welcome to the space being used for the Joy of Writing Conference on November, 11, 2011. This is aimed at giving you a small sample of writing in a digital environment and sharing ideas and feedback. To create a blog, click the 'Create a Blog' link on the left.
Photo Prompt
Choose a photo that tickles your imagination. Think about it. Then write. You have seven minutes. The aim is to get out as much as possible. Don't revise, don't worry, just write.
To incorporate the thumbnail of your photo into your blog, do the following:

This exercise is aimed at having sound lead the writing. This can be done with a series of sound effects or music. To use this prompt in your class, first play a few minutes of the piece for the students and then start over and have them write for the duration of the music.
Have them Create a blog, use the tag Sound Prompt. The music lasts 8 minutes. Make sure the kids just keep writing; get them not to self-edit, just see what happens, what comes out. The aim is discovery.
Once the music has finished, have the students save their piece and then replay it while they comment on several others' pieces.
