Podcasting

If you want your students to become better writers, authors, and communicators, then they need to be podcasting.

A podcast is, simply, an audio story, essay or poem that has been recorded and converted to an MP3 file or other audio file format for playback in a digital music player.  Among the many benefits of podcasting in the classroom is student motivation.  Students who are not necessarily excited by the prospect of writing for an audience of one -- their teacher -- for the purpose of getting a grade may leap at the opportunity to create for an authentic, global audience.  Also, podcasting requires only the most basic equipment and is easy to do.  It can be done with as little as a computer with an internet connection and a telephone.  An inexpensive microphone -- available at Staples,  RadioShack, and the like -- will give you better sound quality.  If your computer came with a microphone, you can also use that.
