Wesch Reactions
There is so much to unpack from Michael Wesch's keynote address this morning. I still find myself energized by his presentation and ideas. Coming to Boston I was hoping to address two areas, and Michael addressed one of those areas quite well.
I am quite concerned about the rapid growth of technology in our lives and lives of our students. The signal to noise ratio of what is useful at these types of conferences isn't what I always hope that it is. Sara Kajder came to our district in February to present and I left there feeling like since all of my students use cell phones, I need to use cell phones in class, even if I didn't feel comfortable with it. Michael did a great job of connecting some of my fears and discomfort with anthropological studies of how the changes in media can affect a culture.

Response to Wesch Post
Hi Tim - I was very interested to read about your hesitancy toward the use of cell phones in class. We keep hearing that the future technology tool for students in schools will/should be the cell phone but I'm still not convinced this is the right tool. I'd love to know that other area that you're hoping to have addressed at this conference.
