Morning Keynote

So much to learn, so little time...

Wesch's  presentation was informative and exciting, yet overwhelming.  I grew up in the so-call "age of technology," but I already find myself hopelessly behind...

As Wesch spurted out the endless list of software and websites that he uses to create and publish blogs, websites, videos, etc., I could barely recognize most of them, yet this is what my students are supposed to be using to communicate with the world?!

to be continued....

i agree that the list of names of websites were daunting.
I like your opening statement. It catches the readers attention.

I feel as you do that I am

I feel as you do that I am often so far behind, like a race I'll never be able to catch. I little bit at a time.

I know what you're talikng about

...but, the trick with any of these workshops is to grab onto a few things that you can take away. Was there on thing that stood out to you as I want to learn how to do. For me, it was when he did a remix of the dove videos. I want to learn how to do that.

I agree!

I use technology in my classroom, yet I feel behind too! I think the minute we catch up, we're behind again, right?
I wonder, then, what steps you think you'll take to stay on top of what your students are doing/can do to communicate and change the world? I love hearing what other people are doing! It helps to feel less isolated in the classroom! :)

Morning Keynote

We're not expected to do it all immediately. Grab what you can and explore!

Great exchange here...

... and I think people's advice to grab one thing is a good one.

First, on the writing. This is very frank, very focused and gets to the heart of what many of us felt. It evoked response, so you should feel good about that. And on revision, you might trying writing what that ONE thing is from his presentation that you will use.

My suggestion: Get your students started doing work, writing online. Find an application or "container" for your students' online work, make it "private" so that it's just the students sharing with each other and get them to comment on each other's work. And really focus your attention on the commenting to strengthen it. This will help students write better, build community and speak in a civil way on the Internet.
ON THE SIDE, waste some time surfing AND ask your students what they think is cool on the Web.
cheers and I hope all of you stay connected to this site. You could help each other a lot.
AND, because there has been so much interest, we would be open to doing pilots with you guys and doing training/mentoring in Web conferences on a regular basis. If you're interested, please contact us.
